QiGong has been traced back in history to 3000 years ago. It is an ancient Chinese discipline that involves the mind, breath and posture creating a calm natural balance of energy. Regular practice of QiGong is an important contribution to a patient’s healing.

QiGong is an ancient Chinese discipline that involves the mind, breath and posture creating a calm natural balance of energy.
QiGong has thousands of different forms that have evolved over the centuries. Some forms are more dynamic than others. The dynamic forms use breath, posture and visualization to circulate qi energy through the body’s meridians affecting the muscles, tendons, bones and internal organs.
These dynamic forms have more body movement that help to strengthen the body.
There are other forms of QiGong that utilize more visualization than body movement and are designed for internal development. These forms are more meditative.
-
Qi Gong involves uniting the mind, breath and posture to create a calm, natural balance of energy.
Qi Gong and its associated practice Tai Chi have both been used to help treat heart disease, blood pressure, arthritis, digestive disorders, obesity, depression, and many other illnesses and ailments.
Practicing on a regular basis will help to prevent stagnation in the organs, muscles, and joints. Where qi flows, blood follows. If qi and blood are not moving, stagnation occurs and disease or injury tends to follow.
Routine Qi Gong can also help to improve focus, breathing, relaxation, movement and strengthen the hormonal endocrine glands and immune system.
-
To see ongoing results, daily practice daily is most beneficial.
Qigong forms usually take about 20 minutes to complete. A 10 minute warm up promotes a starting base of qi energy and warms up your muscles.
-
The practice of QiGong teaches us how to feel and direct energy throughout the body.
Your breathing, visualization and intention focus the effects of the practice to bring your body into balance and harmony.
-
Initially, the qi flow may not be felt but it is still flowing.
With daily practice, the qi may present as warmth, tingling or fluttering within the body.
You will feel more grounded and calm after finishing your practice.
As in any practice or task, your intention and focus will guide and amplify the results.

Left or below: The Tai Chi symbol for Heaven over Earth. Yin-yang theory (the opposites belonging to a whole) is foundational in Chinese medicine theory and at the root of what acupuncture is all about. Chi, or Qi, is the essence of what gives life to human beings – unifying our body, mind and spirit.
Each one of us connects heaven and earth in a way that no other being does. This symbol reminds us of the balance between heaven and earth and that we are inherently connected to the ebb and flow of the universal forces.
